Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Friday, 07-Jul-2023 03:31:59 JST Alex Gleason Well, Threads is going to push me to improve Soapbox. We can't let them have improvements over us on anything. - Doughnut Lollipop 【記録係】:blobfoxgooglymlem: likes this.

Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Friday, 07-Jul-2023 03:34:08 JST Alex Gleason @neko The actual threads look great. The little avatar circles and the "show replies". This is peak performance. -

Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Friday, 07-Jul-2023 03:38:33 JST Alex Gleason @verita84 @neko Yeah and threads here suck. You can't tell who anyone is replying to once the thread gets too big. This is a good solution. -

Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Friday, 07-Jul-2023 03:40:45 JST Alex Gleason @verita84 @neko It will require an API change. Mastodon is currently exploring the same thing. We could maybe work around it with the current API somewhat. It's not easy but not exactly hard either. -

JAWSH (jawsh@social.jawsh.xyz)'s status on Friday, 07-Jul-2023 03:45:34 JST JAWSH agreed, looks good and should make things easier when there's a high number of replies, etc. Basically every FE becomes a pain when there is a high reply count. Alex Gleason likes this. -

Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Friday, 07-Jul-2023 03:47:36 JST Alex Gleason @i @verita84 @neko Not returning the whole thread would make the API somewhat usable on posts with hundreds of thousands of comments. Currently hitting the endpoint can DoS your server if there are too many replies 😂 -

mr recursive clicks strikes again -

Nekobit (neko@ryona.agency)'s status on Friday, 07-Jul-2023 03:51:09 JST Nekobit @alex @i @verita84 this shit is what annoyed me when making Treebirds thread navigation, i had to do weird caching shit or else it would keep fetching the whole thread Alex Gleason likes this. -

:blank: (i@declin.eu)'s status on Friday, 07-Jul-2023 03:53:12 JST :blank: @neko @alex @verita84 they probably store their thread in a graph like manner that's easy to query, with pleroma you have a context for the whole thread and not much else, you can only recursive pull posts up the thread, and not much else with the current two buckets of crap design Alex Gleason likes this.
