     @verita84 @neko It will require an API change. Mastodon is currently exploring the same thing. We could maybe work around it with the current API somewhat. It's not easy but not exactly hard either.

     agreed, looks good and should make things easier when there's a high number of replies, etc. Basically every FE becomes a pain when there is a high reply count.

     @i @verita84 @neko Not returning the whole thread would make the API somewhat usable on posts with hundreds of thousands of comments. Currently hitting the endpoint can DoS your server if there are too many replies 😂

     @neko @alex @verita84 they probably store their thread in a graph like manner that's easy to query, with pleroma you have a context for the whole thread and not much else, you can only recursive pull posts up the thread, and not much else with the current two buckets of crap design
