victor (victor@crucible.world)'s status on Friday, 07-Jul-2023 01:19:34 JST victor @mk @threat @GrapheneOS I mean...The fact that the Pixel is Google-branded hardware is plenty of reason to think that the phone is backdoored, GrapheneOS or not. Just maybe Graphene makes it a little harder for the smaller fish to get in on the spying action. -

victor (victor@crucible.world)'s status on Friday, 07-Jul-2023 01:33:03 JST victor @mk @threat @GrapheneOS It is speculation, as are all things security-related, but when mass-produced devices have been backdoored at the hardware level (see: Intel Management Engine or Cisco backdoors for example), any software layered on top is a placebo or maybe a slightly better spy filter than the stock OS.
It's all been pwned, best policy is to just find a faraday bag that works (none of them do lolol) and only use your phone in emergencies, which is anathema to today's world. -

you have valid point, but it's up to the individual to determine their operating model. i have a use for a pixel+grapheneos myself but it's not what most people would consider a use-case.

again, i have a certain use-case for my handset. my uplink setup is quite different than most. faraday bag is a nice idea, but as you said none of them really work 100%.
more on this later, i have to write a blog about it.
