Anime Wong (elliptica@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jun-2023 07:36:32 JST Anime Wong @Zealist @Twoinchdestroya Another problem I've found is that compost heaps attract animals (rats, mice, raccoons). I just use chemical fertilizers to enrich the soil. -

Anime Wong (elliptica@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jun-2023 07:45:15 JST Anime Wong @Twoinchdestroya @GhostTown @Zealist I tried that last year. One problem is that the sun is overhead at noon, there is little shade to be had for most of the day. I grew sunflowers and corn to block the sun. but t ended up blocking the sun for the entire day for only a small part of the garden, and it also robbed the soil of nutrients killing anything else that grew there. -

Twoinchdestroya (twoinchdestroya@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jun-2023 07:45:16 JST Twoinchdestroya @Elliptica @GhostTown @Zealist There’s a method of using larger leafed plants to help reduce the UV exposure, and in the shadier areas, that’s where you plant everything

GhostTown (ghosttown@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jun-2023 07:45:20 JST GhostTown @Elliptica @Twoinchdestroya @Zealist Apple tree are easy to grow, even if you're total farmlet (like me).
Just needs dense sun exposure and watering every 1-2 days.
Strawberries can grow even without constant watering (but soil must be wet itself most of times).
Watermelons and melons are much trickier, they need always warm soil and extra care. -
