Don’t know if it’s just me being a grumpy middle-aged man but I think Diablo peaked with Diablo II. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Zacpod @eamon @konnorrogers I don’t think D4 is particularly bad in this regard, the only things you can buy are cosmetic items (many or most of which you can also grind for). At least it’s not pay-to-win I guess.

@eamon @konnorrogers @thomasfuchs Yup. The massive monetization and micro-transactional obsession all the big devs have turns me off completely. I get that they need to make a profit, but there's a difference between profit and profiteering.

@konnorrogers @thomasfuchs Games didn't use to be designed around getting as much money out of you as possible beyond the initial purchase price - that changed a lot over the years and imo has largely contributed to the problem, sadly.

@thomasfuchs I feel this. I remember spending summers as a 12 / 13 yr old playing Diablo 2 with my brother and his friends.
I used to play world of Warcraft with them up until WOTLK. I don't think gaming will ever capture me the same way again.
