I really hope to god you're learning to set up a phpbb forum right this minute. Stop masturbating and go do it. - Doughnut Lollipop 【記録係】:blobfoxgooglymlem: likes this.

@PurpCat Just surprised me that this super old php project is still around. Looks like phpnuke is still around too: https://github.com/phpnuke/phpnuke
I used to run postnuke. Looks like that died in the late 00s.In conversation permalink Attachments

Yeah PHP forums never died. Even Xenforo is PHP. The issue is; php isn't trendy, forums aren't trendy for someone to write some shit in Rust or something (Josh claims he is but he's currently fighting internet warfare), and most importantly php at least for Xenforo didn't scale well.
On the flipside WP and mediawiki are php.In conversation permalink Doughnut Lollipop 【記録係】:blobfoxgooglymlem: likes this.Doughnut Lollipop 【記録係】:blobfoxgooglymlem: repeated this. -

When was it not? Xenforo costs $$$ and will cut you off from updates for any reason they like (not counting warez kiddies doing risky shit like running nulled versions). A lot of forum software that's FOSS is still around, I know SMF and MyBB are still around. In conversation permalink -

>but phone posters killed the forum, the ui/ux just didn't transter over
I mean look how many retards on sites like KF were phoneposters, and 4chan especially. I disagree on that part, I think the part that killed it were the wave of new NPCs who wanted an "app" for it.In conversation permalink Doughnut Lollipop 【記録係】:blobfoxgooglymlem: likes this. -
