Curious - since Kbin is federated - how does Mastodon/Calckey/MissKey/PixelFed users interact with it? Or is it federated within its own universe only?

@rom Kbin does federate with Mastodon/Calckey/Pleroma et al! A user of Mastodon (or one of the others) should be able to follow a Kbin user or "magazine" (group), upvote via likes, and reply to posts. Kbin also has "Microblog" tabs (for magazines and generally) where you can see microblog-style posts from Mastodon or wherever hashtagged with the magazine name. (And it also seems possible for Mastodon users to post directly to the group but idk exactly how 🙃)

@rom If you don't particularly want the Kbin-style reading interface (with an algorithm to sort posts by "hot", like Reddit) then there shouldn't be any need to make a separate Kbin account, I wouldn't think. Kbin posts will show up in their chronological place in a microblogging feed 🙂

@jayeless thanks for this. Trying to figure out if I need another account (on Kbin) since I’m already on the fediverse.

@jdp23 @rom Cool! Good to know that's how it appears in Lemmy. I'll be interested to know how Kbin deals with it too, once a post can get through Cloudflare. I wasn't sure if it'd show up as a thread or if it'd be relegated to the "Microblog" tab.

@jayeless I posted to lemmy by tagging the group -- so https://infosec.exchange/@thenexusofprivacy/110522140277722688 became https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/83606 (the tag's at the bottom)

It turned into a good compare-and-contrast of what replies are visible where and how they look.

I also tagged a kbin magazine but they are doing Cloudflare filtering in response to a DDOS attack so connectivity has been somewhat flaky and it didn't get through. And I tagged a friendica group but had a typo in the group name, oops.

@rom @jdp23 What should work, I believe, is copying the URL of that post, pasting it into the search bar of your instance, hopefully seeing the post come up (likely it'll look like a title and a link to the full post), and then replying to that post 🙂

I just switched from my favorite distro (Linux Mint) to Debian 12 KDE Plasma. - linux - Fedia
Debian and KDE are a great combination and things have been running very smoothly so far. I think I have officially converted.

@rom Federation might also be a bit flaky right now with some instances because of load and DDOS mitigation... but I believe what I said is SUPPOSED to be how it works 😅
