@tamitha @vkc @JoeRess Heh, this reminds me of the unspoken "agreement" people who pirate content made with streaming platforms (of all kinds, especially Spotify and Netflix): "make it ridiculously more convenient to pay you for the content rather than steal it, and I will."
That doesn't address your YouTube/Patreon comment, but it made me chuckle.
I have no evidence to the contrary, so I have to hope you're right. I think it's an overly-positive view, though.

@tamitha @vkc @JoeRess Like, I think a TRUE danger to people like podcasters and YouTubers is the "SponsorBlock" type tools.
...and it's only a matter of time before we get those for audio...
What IF a tool like that comes out for podcasts, and is free, and is SUPER easy to implement. What if a podcaster relying on host-read ads to put food on their table gets income decimated because the advertiser stops seeing any conversation/engagement from their sponsorship?
It keeps me up at night.

Look, I just don't want to see some dark future where content creators are scraping by, and we're all overrun by AI content that doesn't cost any time or effort to produce...

@killyourfm @tamitha @vkc @JoeRess Eh. I mean is it piracy if I don't actively listen to the ads too? That's part of the contract too. I tend to mute or walk away during ads and don't feel bad about that. I've *never* interacted with a "now from our sponsor" either. On the other hand I spend ~$60/month on Patreon
