   To post #SoundFiles on #Mastodon:
   You do NOT have to make a #YouTube video, like in Twitter. You can post a #WAV or similar file right inside your toot. Insert it in as you would a photo, but search for the sound file on your device.

   "Audio files can be any length, as long as the file size is under 40 MBs. The supported formats are MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, OPUS, AAC, M4A and 3GP." - @feditips

     If it went viral it might have an effect, but so far it doesn't seem to be a problem?

     (An alternative approach is to upload the audio onto a PeerTube server, as the files there use peer-to-peer technology to spread the load across everyone who is listening/watching audio or video. Plus people can follow PeerTube accounts from Mastodon etc as they're part of the Fediverse.)

     @TheManyVoices @feditips What impact does this have on instance servers? I know there are a lot of small admins that are paying for storage out of their pockets. Wouldn't a link to some other service hosting the media file be more... considerate?

     For what it's worth, I've never heard of any server complaining about audio files causing bandwidth difficulties.

     On the other hand, I don't think I've seen audio posts go viral on here so far. The most popular posts are almost all text or image based.

     Basically, probably no reason to worry about it at the moment, but the situation may change in the future if audio posts get more popular.

     I'm afraid I'm not experienced enough with those situations to comment on that intelligently.

     I just know that prior to getting on Mastodon, I always had to first post my #voiceover sample files on #SoundCloud, or be tech savvy enough (and have ample time) to create #YouTube videos for each of them, before posting to social media.

     Now, I can just post my existing #voiceacting samples directly to my toots.🎙️🐘

     It's a huge time-saver!
