   yeah this is just rewriting history. it's not true at all. Identi.ca was launched in 2008 when Twitter only had 200k MAUs. It was a ghost town yet. Nobody was being oppressed, it was just a desire to have an open platform.

     @pre The #Fediverse predated the time when anyone felt oppressed on Twitter or Facebook.
     
     When I joined, it was "since you like open source, you should join this".

     It comes down to this:

     #Fediverse was invented because the oppressed didn't like oligarchs owning and controlling the means of communication.

     #bluesky was invented because one of the oligarchs wanted to get around the government telling him what to do.

     #nostr was invented because crypto-scammers didn't like Fedi blocking their spam.

     I mean roughly. That's probably not really fair on Nostr.
