It's June 1, 2023. How time flies.
A month from now, we're halfway through 2023, and then it's the holiday season again and 2024.
For now… #June.

What is June for your country, nation, and/or culture?
On the Historical side of things:
In the #Philippines, June is the #Independence month of the nation from the conqueror #Spain (Spaniards). The Philippines then was only the regions of Luzon and Visayas, and were under the control of Spain for 300 years.
There was also an anti-Spanish revolutionary secret society founded on January of 1982 called the «**KKK**».
**What is the «KKK»?**
The «**KKK**» (Baybayin-Tagalog: ᜃᜃᜃ), or «**Katipunan**» (Baybayin-Tagalog: ᜃᜆᜒᜉᜓᜈᜈ᜕), stands for «**Kataástaasan Kagalang-galang na Katipunan ng̃ mg̃á Anak ng Bayan**» or «**Kataástaasang, Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng̃ mg̃á Anak ng Bayan**». It translates into English as the «**Supreme and Honourable Association of the Children of the Nation**».
(In Baybayin-Tagalog, it is written as: «ᜃᜆᜀᜐ᜔ᜆᜀᜐᜈ᜔ ᜃᜄᜎᜅ᜔ᜄᜎᜅ᜔ ᜈ ᜃᜆᜒᜉᜓᜈᜈ᜔ ᜈᜅ᜔ ᜋᜅ ᜀᜈᜃ᜔ ᜈᜅ᜔ ᜊᜌᜈ᜕» or «ᜃᜆᜀᜐ᜔ᜆᜀᜐᜅ᜔ ᜃᜄᜎᜅ᜔ᜄᜎᜅᜅ᜔ ᜃᜆᜒᜉᜓᜈᜈ᜔ ᜈᜅ᜔ ᜋᜅ ᜀᜈᜃ᜔ ᜈᜅ᜔ ᜊᜌᜈ᜕» respectively.)
Attached is the first flag of the «KKK» / «Katipunan».
@s1m0n4 Ooh! June is now the summer school break here in the Philippines, after the 2000 lockdown. It was originally April and May, and June was the start of a new school year.
Normally, we go to beaches and swimming pool resorts around April and May, mainly to give the kids their much awaited fun days. But, I'm not sure if that changed, or will change, since the new school year now starts in August.
Regardless, before and now, rainy season usually starts around August (sans La Niña and El Niño). It still is a good time for us to go to beaches and travel around the country.
^^
@youronlyone in Italy it's when summer school break starts. People living near the beach spend their lunchtime sunbathing and all sorts of festivals are happening.
In France it's the last month of school and flea markets period continues from May until September. And you can easily find ice-cream sellers in the historical city center.
How is June in the Philippines?
@misterdonut3 Ahh, yes! When everyone's getting married. ^_^
@youronlyone@c.im
June bride 👰
Typo fixed:
It should be **1892** not **1982**. 😹
@s1m0n4 Wow, 3 months!
True, summer heat is too much.
Back in the 90s, we used to get 3 weeks break. The week before Christmas, the week of Christmas and New Year, and the week after New Year. And the October 31, November 1 , and November 2 break.
But in recent years, those were cut down. October 31st and November 1st, and the weeks of Christmas and New Year only.
And students today, if classes were suspended because of weather disturbances, it is simply rescheduled on a Saturday. If two days were cancelled, that would be two Saturdays. In my time, we just study at home and do assignment (which, we didn't do anyway, LOL).
I wonder, is the Christmas-New Year the only one were the entire world is on break and holiday? I'm not sure how it is in #Australia and #NewZealand since their seasons are reverse of what we have.
@youronlyone beaches in the Philippines must be truly breathtaking! I saw some pictures from people on vacation and it's lovely! Italian kids have a 3-months school break. From June to September. It's too hot otherwise to seat in a classroom without air conditioning. The rest of the year they don't have many breaks though, just 2 weeks for the new year and one week for Easter.
@s1m0n4 Hmm… maybe they're trying to copy the Asia-Pacific education system. Intense focus on formal education.
China, Japan, and Korea, they have the world's most intense and challenging education system. South Koreans, for example, they can solve college level mathematics by Grade 7, iirc. Here in the Philippines, at least in the 90s and in the school I attended, we were taught college level mathematics only at Grade 10 (we don't have Grades 11 and 12 then, so it's college after that).
I don't know. For me, I think there should be balance between formal education and enjoyment. Kids should be kids. Teenagers should be teenagers. Once we enter adulthood, it's rare to have the time and to find pureness about the world around us. We start to worry about work, the issues of the world, and all that.
I mean, a few months ago, I saw a documentary how some UK schools are trying to copy South Korean schools. While at the same time, in South Korea, there is a push to be more relaxed like Western schools. LOL.
Funny, I remember skipping classes because I got tired. (Until I was caught.) You know, just a breather (that ended up a habit 😹
(That ended up long. ^^;; )
@youronlyone so many school days! I wonder if kids didn't get too tired in the 90s.
There have been discussions recently about changing the Italian school calendar, because 3 summer months are too long and it's a big issue for parents as well, when they don't have grandparents to help them.
But teachers are very conservative and it's difficult to change their minds. Plus the heat would be unbearable.
“June is Filipino Heritage Month”
Mable Elmore, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives, has issued the following statement in celebration of Filipino Heritage Month:
“June is Filipino Heritage Month and an opportunity to learn about Filipino culture and the unique contributions that this quickly growing community has brought to B.C.”
…
“Our government will continue to tackle racism by legislating race-based data collection through the Anti-Racism Data Act and by addressing systemic racism in its programs and services by introducing broader anti-racism legislation in 2024.”
