LinkedIn is the most cringe and unfunny social platform in existence.

It's also the only social platform that you'll be severely disadvantaged in life if you don't use.

Why? I don’t use it.

Can confirm - not funny, fun or useful at all

I think it could be a really good trolling opportunity based on some posts I’ve seen.

Companies use it to judge you. If you are lucky enough to have a way of making a living you don't need to use it for, that's great but unfortunately that's not true for a lot of people.

Which companies? I have a hard time believing it’s that important.

What are they about?

@Tony @bot A friend’s workplace mandated that they watch a certain number of hours of Linkedin Learning videos every month

I mean, can’t you just apply through their own site and send them your cv, and that’s it?

@bot @KitlerIs6 some of them require you to input linkedin profile

Attaching a whole social platform to that process seems like it could only harm you as a candidate.

That seems awful lmao, it’s like how to be a manipulative corporate drone 101. I dislike “business” ppl in general, they’re so fake.

@bot @Tony From what I heard, it’s basically teaching you how to fit into corporate culture and be milquetoast to minimize frictions / liability. The videos state the obvious a lot. I went and found a table of contents that seems pretty typical for what my friend had to watch (see pic)

@bot @KitlerIs6 That's exactly why they do it.

Do they expect you to maintain it and make cringe motivational posts every so often?

This is true - some companies literally evaluate you based on your linked profile. It’s like a resume used to be now.
I messed with it for awhile but got out of that world because I decided corporate/middle management shit wasn’t interesting to me.

I’ve went through corporate sales training for many years and had to do this sort of stuff constantly.
I’ve always liked personality and psychology stuff so it was fun, but the more you talk to people, you realize a lot of what they teach you is just getting into the weeds. People are much simpler than that.

That’s the vibe I got, it’s just a bunch of super fake ppl obsessed with building a brand around themselves when they’re literally just retards with zero credibility that lack any valuable insight.

Nah you can just have an account. I went hard in motivational posting for awhile when I thought it would be cool to be a motivational speaker and then I realized the whole industry is one big scam

It’s probably like… you tell ppl what to do, and if they don’t do it, they’re fired.

I’m curious, can you elaborate on this?

@bot I have never used it, will never use it. I’m skeptical that it’s even particularly useful.
