It's noticeable how the English word 'gender' has been loaned into other European languages, in no small part for use by right-wingers to describe anything that makes them comfortable: trans and gay people's existence, women's liberation, anything non-traditional.
On Meloni's initiative to stop Italians using English loan-words, someone (can't find it now) made the point that her own right wing ofc continues using 'gender' because they want to emphasise that such an outlandish concept could never possibly have an equivalent in Italian.
