    @goatsarah @aendra @mentallyalex
    Yeah! I mean horses-for-courses. I think they can't conceive of social networking that's not driven by "broadcast" accounts (as Alex says), and reach and ofc it's about advertising revenue

    And it's not simply the UI. Calckey has a way nicer UI than Mastodon imo but also far more settings and features to curate your experience and timelines *BUT* you have to put in the effort - so it'll still be offputting if you have a 'birdbrain'

      Honestly I'm getting rather bored with the site. I've posted all manner of things and it's shouting into a void, I have nearly 100 followers but nobody even likes anything I post.

      I've just come up with the mother of all shitposts on Bluesky and everyone's sleeping on it 🥲

      @goatsarah It feels like Mastodon in the pre-Gab days, when people still posted "lewds" on main. It's so quiet otherwise, I see the same 12 people endlessly.

      @mentallyalex
      Nailed it! I'm seeing a lot of those who remained from #trans twitter trying to head that way and organizing invite "chains"

      I mean, I understand some people like like the simplicity of Twitter and want a clone. I get that totally

      But here people, reply, talk and you can really craft your social network (even *more* so on Calckey!) ... but yeah, 743 settings 🤣

      Room for both indeed

      @mentallyalex It's fun to watch them try to speedrun the growth pains Mastodon has had the last decade, I wish them well and I think there's totally room for both platforms, but I'm admittedly a bit sceptical.

      @aendra Im if the same mind. The internet and social media is spacious and frankly, both places should exist.

      I made a blog post about it at more length, but yeah...

      TL;DR - both places are completely different and should be used in parallel.

      @mentallyalex Nah there's some actual engagement due to The Hellthread. It's a lot of hornyposting (ergo, my Ass Algo, which people were joking about being a possibility a mere 24h ago), which, to the media types descending on the site, seems like really organic growth, but I've seen this before and it's dead compared to what Mastodon was like during its horntposting years.

      @aendra that tracks.

      First quarter looks nice, second quarter might hold up, let's see how they are looking Q4 when everyone remembers porn exists.

      @aendra I haven't looked at it. I don't know if I could even get into the system.

      From what I gathered from others it's just filling with "broadcasting" accounts. People who use social media to simply announce their latest whatever?

      I would be curious how the analytics are on the platform. Are they just broadcasting into a mindless void...thousands of people who aren't even reading?

      @Natasha_Jay
      I've talked to others about this as well, but I really do think it comes down to the way we engage with them.

      I come from a technical background. I'm comfortable talking to technical people and I'm a pretty technically confident person.

      We need to design systems that allow for the non-technical people to be comfortable and confident. If that means they are on a curated and heavily managed instance of an ActivityPub bridged protocol? Awesome - truly.

      I don't need them to be uncomfortable so that I am comfortable.
