@starsstorm I think this drive to be special by appropriating minority identities tells something about our society. The fact is that "normal" people feel like they're missing out on something. I think the core of the issue lies in clear separation between normal and divergent, and making divergence into an essence. Boring poo people vs alien glittery souls, as opposed to accepting everything as a variation of the norm and, yes, being on a spectrum. Acceptance and spectrum is what sjw say all the time but for some reason it only serves to divide people into castes. There's probably some lingustic fuckery at play, as it always is with them, but I think I'm not ready to tackle it right now.

@Mynona @starsstorm My sister in law (30 - and yeah watches a bunch of TikTok) and father in law apparently both think they have ADHD. If they do it hasn't prevented them doing anything in the socially accepted timelines. Meanwhile my husband was diagnosed with dyspraxia which which mostly ignored by his family - which I suspect his sister and dad have as well!

@SionnachRua @Mynona @starsstorm I think Temple Grandin has had some very wise things to say about technology-use (escapism) being an excuse for not adapting to, and become useful with meaningful purpose. We live in an age of over-accommodating the fictitious "self" and told what ever seems right must be. Hey, you must be a porn-loving type. Hey, you're just ADHD just go ahead an tiktok your life away. Hey, your aspie, just disappear into video games. It's a recipe for disaster, as people have a right to meaningful work and development. We've enprisoned ourselves.

I can always tell when yet another friend of mine is going to suddenly become adhd or autistic by self identifying. They always share these awful neurodivergent memes that imply superiority or logic is the basis for mental disorders.
