Since 2019, my family has masked. We've stayed home. We've lived less full lives. I reffed two roller derby seasons masked. You have any idea how uncomfortable that is? And we've dodged every damn bullet we could.
My partner took a new job. His coworker came to the office sick when she didn't have to. She didn't think to take a test. My partner has COVID and my other partner and I wait and worry. We were all to officiate a wedding this weekend. We're paying for that dumb mistake.

@epilanthanomai I am very annoyed for sure. The moment my partner said he had a tickle in his throat and it had been all day and he wanted to lie down, I was all "take a test". That's really all it would have taken his coworker. I know they cost a bit, but checking if it's a cold or COVID still matters.

@roadriverrail As someone who's immunocompromised, who recently got over a ~two-month bout of viral pneumonia, and who was just told by my company that everybody* is expected to start coming into the office at least two days a week again as if the pandemic were just entirely done now... yeah, you're not gonna hear any argument from me.
*: I have several outs and will not be expected to do this. Most of my coworkers do not.

@epilanthanomai I honestly do not understand the reasoning about making people come in. My company treats the office as a facility that's available when it's needed and people use it as they see fit and we have done excellently with it. The only time I need the office is when I need a EE for deep debugging, and they're all in SF anyway, so do the math. I've yet to see a good explanation for mandatory attendance.

@mcmcgreevy Much appreciated, and it seems we're going to be okay. We're 3 days out, the sick one is getting better quickly, and the other two have had negative tests and still show no symptoms.
