aeva (aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place)'s status on Monday, 24-Apr-2023 12:07:35 JST aeva Alright everyone, crisis averted. I fixed it by updating my time-honored Linux audio repair techinque of "uninstall pulseaudio" to "make sure that neither pulseaudio nor pipewire are installed".
The more things change the more they stay the same 😌

I haven't tried pipewire yet but before that, alsa was the only way I could reliability play audio on my machine, pulse would constantly tell me my sound card stopped existing or drop the volume by 50% unprompted
alsa just works, 100% of the time, for what I want

Andreas Grois (soulsource@mastodon.gamedev.place)'s status on Tuesday, 25-Apr-2023 00:16:08 JST Andreas Grois @aeva @technomancy Honestly though: If one doesn't need to change audio outputs frequently, ALSA (with dmix because modern sound chips don't do hardware mixing for reasons) is perfectly fine.
