> I think the bigger issue is going to be explaining the fediverse to lawyers, moreso ones who are not tech savvy or whose technology expertise begins and ends with CSI Cyber reruns.
No.
No, no.
No.
That will not ever come up. There is a 0% chance that anything you are doing is going to hinge on your ability to explain fedi to your attorney. Ignore that at your own peril: the tech stops mattering really quickly.
This is why you want to get to know some good lawyers.
The fediverse doesn't matter to lawyers (except @Humpleupagus ), the tech doesn't matter 99% of the time. If your lawyer doesn't get it, half the time the judge won't get it and 100% of the time the jury won't get it. Your lawyer is likely to be smart, is likely to understand the law, and is practically guaranteed to understand the practical realities of the courtroom better than you. Your lawyer may or may not understand the tech, but your lawyer will understand which stuff doesn't matter.
So you need to just forget anything you are thinking about how understanding the tech is going to be relevant and to conduct yourself in such a way as to account for that kind of thing. (This is why there's no loli on FSE.)

I wish all the people saying "post the n-word or you're GUILTY OF SECRET JUDAISMS and YOU ARE A FED" would would understand that kind of thing. Feds absolutely will say whatever because they are feds and they don't have to care; people worried about the feds are the ones that have to be careful.

I think the big issue isn't the tech per se, I think it's that feds and ADAs will present your post out of context, and use terms like "extremist" in relation to the fediverse generally to make a shitpost look like you're a member of a neo-nazi militia that threatens public safety and the sovereignty of the United States. And no judge or jury will understand shitposting and will read the post in the worst possible way.
