Thanks James! I had no idea why they are called atomic clocks, now I know. I'll never know how that works but I kind of have a clue albeit a bit fuzzy. But that's okay, I have a grandfather clock, I know its mechanical, it has components, gears, springs, weights, etc. But still don't know how it works.

My dad got me started 'cause he was a nerd. He passed away at thend of December. We stand on the shoulders of giants. James Trickle uP (opalmirror@hachyderm.io)'s status on Tuesday, 14-Mar-2023 23:03:28 JST James Trickle uP @Swede1952 There are also atomic clocks in orbit.... every GPS or GNSS satellite has an atomic clock. These are called atomic because they are calibrated to the vibration frequency of an electronic spectrum line from a specific atomic element, and hence much more stable in rate than the vibrating rocks (quartz crystals) used in computers, TVs, and all manner of electronics.

James Trickle uP (opalmirror@hachyderm.io)'s status on Tuesday, 14-Mar-2023 23:03:29 JST James Trickle uP @Swede1952 I love clocks that automatically correct for the goofy twice a year clock adjustment. So much so I designed (3d print and electronics and software) my own clock which does this and also accurately follows Internet time. So called 'atomic' clocks (I have several, and a watch) have a ferrite bar antenna and receive radio time signals which encode the time and the semiannual changes. The are atomic only in that atomic clocks are used at the transmitter. 1/2

I woke up when my clock said 06:00 AM this morning. I have one of those atomic alarm clocks (I don't think that means it has a tiny reactor inside) that gets the correct time from a time server somewhere - or maybe it's just magic.
It dawned on me that I was up before dawn. ? Well ... bottom line, I got an hour less sleep than I thought. ? I guess I knew that already but didn't bother to think about it. Hmmm ... I may have mentioned at some point over the past few months that I can ramble, when I'm in the mood.
I had a sunset photograph that I was tweaking. Then, I tweaked some more, and again some more. I may have over tweaked. ?
