   @djwfyi Before or after the beat? It could be an issue of delayed or premature beat recognition. In other words, in anticipation of where the beat should be, your child could be hitting either early or late or both.

   Instead, try having your child verbally count out the beat and clap. “Clap, one, two, three, clap, one, two, three, clap, one, two, three, clap“ and so on without the metronome.

     My kids started piano lessons last week.
     As someone who did music from the time I was 6, I'm excited.

     But.

     It turns out that one of them cannot tell when they are or are not hitting a note with the beat of the metronome. And I just do not understand. Rhythm always came naturally to me.

     So is this something people learn with practice?
     Right now the tapping of keys completely out of step with the metronome beat is about to drive this dad bonkers.
