@MiaWinter@cleo@puniko At the very least, it should work like Tusky does with Akkoma - the extra features don't work, but you still get the very core - posting, liking, following, etc. To just not work for accts that aren't Mastodon is incredibly silly.
@puniko@cleo@yassie_j part of activity pub i think is identifying what you are, like my pixelfed shows all the federated instances what type they are, down to the specific misskey fork. I guess they just query that and refuse if it isn't "Mastodon"
@daniel_bohrer@chaos.social@MiaWinter@tech.lgbt@puniko@mk.absturztau.be@ivory@tapbots.social@paul@tapbots.social@adora@tech.lgbt mastodon as in mastodon api? well guess what, then its false advertising as it doesnt support the full mastodon api. it just doesnt. Mastodon: id is a json string Ivory: okay, I will parse it as a integer then this, this is ivorys reality and has nothing to do with ThIs Is A MaStOdOn cLieNt. this isnt a mastodon client, cause what if the ID isnt able to be parsed as int for a case? well guess what, ivory crashes and the official mastodon app still works. lol. lmao even
@daniel_bohrer@chaos.social@MiaWinter@tech.lgbt@puniko@mk.absturztau.be@ivory@tapbots.social@paul@tapbots.social@adora@tech.lgbt the differences are one way. If you would have read it. Meaning that as long as you support normal masto api, according to mastos specs, akkoma works too, but they are breaking mastos specs by trying to parse a string as a int. Which doesnt work on akkoma. But on masto. Read the full threads please, toot! Had the same issue back in the day. But today the spec is like this and ivory doesnt hold on to it.
@cleo@MiaWinter@puniko@ivory@paul@adora I still see no problem here, Ivory is advertised as a Mastodon client, it does what it does what it says on the tin, and nothing more.
@adora@tech.lgbt@MiaWinter@tech.lgbt@puniko@mk.absturztau.be@ivory@tapbots.social@paul@tapbots.social i dont feel like its a a attemt at a lesser user experience, but generous ignorance. Just how the scaling mastodon blogpost talked about a "mastodon ecosystem" and wished for features Akkoma, Calckey and Foundkey all long have. Lol. Lmao even. Its just that they dont understand what open specs are and how the fediverse works. They suffer tunnelvision. Clear reason they blocked akkoma as I now know is that they are breaking Mastodons own api spec in a way that masto still works but other services dont
@cleo@MiaWinter@puniko@ivory@paul@adora The server-to-server API running the fediverse is mostly unified (apart from minor feature completion issues). But the server-to-client API between Mastodon and Akkoma is slightly different. With Ivory mostly being advertised as a Mastodon client, I can understand that they don't want their users to report bugs with servers that aren't actually fully supported.
@cleo@MiaWinter@puniko so maybe I'm being overly generous - I saw it as "we're doing our best to provide a good experience, and that means we're restricting things to servers we can test on, as we grow."
But @ivory@paul is a human being and can definitely respond for himself.
I've used tapbots products back when I was on IOS and I never felt there was an intentional attempt to make a lesser user experience ever
@adora@cleo@puniko no, they actively block non-mastodon, that's not a "we didn't get to it issue" it's really a "we don't want you to use this with anything else than Mastodon
@MiaWinter@cleo@puniko to be fair, they had been working on the project for a while, but had to release it in a less than complete state because of the shutdown of Twitter API.
I really don't think that this is a master plan to undermine the open web or something
@MiaWinter@adora@cleo@puniko Why would we not want more users using our app? It makes no sense just to limit our app to Mastodon if it was easy to allow other services to work. The fact is, we just don't have the time and resources to fix every problem at once. We have a million things on our plate and only 1 developer that can work on these things. All we want to do is make the best product we can that as many people possible can enjoy using it. But it's going to take us time.
