No longer boosting images without alt text descriptions. By all means, post your pictures, but it only take a couple of seconds to describe them for the visually impaired. Not a big deal.

Mr. Funk E. Dude (mrfunkedude@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 23-Feb-2023 02:31:11 JST Mr. Funk E. Dude @OldAndCranky I saw an alt text the other day that was two paragraphs long. It just described a cup of coffee. I think the actual post was 5 words.
I'm not sure if that person was just being over zealous or if the coffee was just THAT strong. ?

Chelle (she/her) ?☕ (westcoastchelle@mastodon.coffee)'s status on Thursday, 23-Feb-2023 02:34:17 JST Chelle (she/her) ?☕ Was it me? Might have been me lmao. I love coffee.
I try to do like, one line telling the most important thing in the photo. And then expand on, idk what makes the image unique or interesting.
Thinking about how I would describe it to someone to paint if time was limited. Start with the basics, expand a bit for interest.

Chelle (she/her) ?☕ (westcoastchelle@mastodon.coffee)'s status on Thursday, 23-Feb-2023 02:36:49 JST Chelle (she/her) ?☕ Actually Darth asked folks that a while back. From what I gathered from the conversation... it's very mixed. Some folks want colors mentioned, some don't care. Some want super basic, some like expansive.
That's why I start with a basic line, then get a bit more descriptive (not usually 2 paragraphs, lmao). So the person can skip to the next thing if they don't care to hear more.

Chelle (she/her) ?☕ (westcoastchelle@mastodon.coffee)'s status on Thursday, 23-Feb-2023 02:39:05 JST Chelle (she/her) ?☕ I like to think it works to meet the needs of both groups of people. It's also why I tend to group all my hashtags at the end of a post. So they don't have to listen to "hashtag this, hashtag that" while they're trying to read the post. If they don't care about hashtags, they can skip, and not miss anything from the content.
I've learned a LOT just by "listening" to conversations about accessibility on here!
