    @evan
    Mastodon supports only a tiny subset of the ActivityPub vocabulary. (e.g. Post payload types are limited to either "Note" or "Question" (Poll).)

    * Should new clients/services avoid ActivityPub vocabulary not supported by Mastodon?
    * What are we missing as a result of Mastodon's incomplete support for the ActivityPub vocabulary?
    * Is it useful to propose additional ActivityPub vocabulary if it isn't supported by Mastodon?

      @bobwyman these are great questions! I think having more support of AP activities and objects makes the fediverse better for everyone.

      @danjones000 @bobwyman part of the design of AP is that you could use different apps that generate different kinds of activities, using the client API, and all the activities flow through your single account. Because activities have an HTML representation, they can be shown in UIs even if the presentation software doesn't understand the activity vocabulary being used.

      I would like to see Mastodon get a little pressure to support more of the standard, and others to follow suit.

      I was thinking the other day about building a Fediverse location-sharing app (like Foursquare).

      The vocabulary is all there (Arrive activity at a Place object being the most basic), but would it gain any steam if Mastodon didn't know what do with those other activities?

      People would want to be able to cross-post to Mastodon, but Mastodon would just ignore it all, as would most other AP apps.
