And mastodon.au admin @mb cites “lack of assistance from @Gargron” as the deciding factor.
I’m investigating further.

@mb @Gargron @fediversenews I run more than one volunteer instance. I want volunteerism to succeed.
But I also think it’s vulnerable to the admins’ change in moods.
Too many admins shut down their instance because they’re having a bad day.

I was wondering if the influx of new users and subsequent headaches associated with their maintenance (requests for changes, moderation, etc) made shut-down easier than dealing with the issues. The cost benefit balance of volunteering no longer made sense.

Thankfully, migration is an option.
But people are soon going to question volunteer-run instances.
