Man, I hated guildwars.

after a combined 15 years running 200+ man endgame server first raiding guilds across EQ(original era to PoP)/WoW (original era to late BC), i have to agree with you
that said, i learned a lot about managing people and running a small business...
also how to not get upset when every insult imaginable is hurled at you at 2AM from the 75 scrubs trying to leap frog your clear in NTOV

The experience is interesting, shame the games are grindy and lame by design

Mmos are the gaming world goyslop

Private servers usually skip that, they're sped up if you find PvP ones. But yeah, standard MMORPG designed is fucking terrible. It's just addiction rather than enjoyment.

modders and server homebrewers have been saving triple A titles for decades now
i agree about how cynical MMOs have become, its pure timesink fecthquestville dopamine drip to keep the bioroids on the plantation

I used to have a ton of fun one some Lineage 2 PvP private servers, led a guild on one for a while. Other than that it's just like a tedious extra job, that you either pay for in a subscription based one or pay for to keep up with the no lifers.
And those fucking gacha microtransactions are the devil.

Any of you retards enjoyed some master of orion 2?

Never tried it, but I have played some similar looking ones

Same lmao, I've avoided the entire genre because of that. It's addictive, and looking back on some of the highlights is nice and all. Had fun, met some randoms that I've kept to this day, but that was a huge time/money sink. And some fuckers sat there and specifically made it that way. ~"How can we slow the game down to a crawl and still keep these fuckers coming back and paying us?"
There are some exceptions at least, PoE still seems ethical (I stopped paying attention though so that may have changed since) if you want a genuine successor to diablo 2 etc. I supported that one for quite a while because of their pro player business model.

Lineage 2 is actually decent.
"a tedious extra job, that you either pay for in a subscription based one or pay for to keep up with the no lifers"
lol so true, as a recovering no lifer i havent gone back to the trough in ages - fucking geared so many ppl over the years
the thought of going to work a second job now in my 40s which has become a faceroll game of glorified rock, paper, scissors makes me want to telefrag myself

The custom ship grid based battles was so fucking good

really far ahead of its time in terms of gameplay systems and mechanics and it even makes most modern titles seem underdeveloped

Yeah, I hear you. I replayed Diablo 2 with some mods to speed it up, better drop rates and a chest that lets you swap items between characters mostly, that was pretty fun. I'm not touching D3, too bright for me even if it wasn't an always online even for singleplayer and all the other BS. Not even going to touch the remake of D2 probably lol
Lmao, yep. Gotta love sorting through piles of junk that you thought might be useful at some point.

i honestly could never get into PoE and dont care much for 2.5d isos in general
loved diablo, but it took me years to actually enjoy d3 and I still play the random season of it because its very arcade-like
PoE is a great game though and the superior choice in the genre; but it requires more of a time and energy investment than i am prepared to make - same with mmos in general
their funding mechanism is the least atrocious - selling people bank slots for their increasing horde is actually one of the least cynical funding mechanisms and is a kind of baked-in fuck you to the genre trope of limited inventory space
at some point i spend all my fucking time just micromanaging inventory

Fuck Mass Effect 3.
I am so glad I pirated that fucker before buying it, I still want my time back for that fucking ending.

@TonyTheTiger @DioZeed @Kinochet @LTJG_Pliskin @Paulyfrog64 @Sui @YarnSmith @chudbere @bot @meticore Yea, my favorites were DnD Stronghold, and Dark Sun : Shattered Lands. Mass Effect 3 failed to do what the latter did successfully decades before it. That, and like half the game side area's was completely miss-able.

If it's too grindy, yeah. I prefer when it's at least optional.

i just couldnt ever get into d2
d3 gameplay is pretty solid even with a shit engine, bad netcode &c.
scratches the itch but i feel dirty not playing PoE instead
and Yes, $ATVI... one of my biggest problems is everything is so fucking cutsey
sad how i have just accepted the "always online" paradigm at some point... man, we are like rats in a fucking maze

They are still good innovative games by interesting developers but you have to keep away from big games
-
Embed this notice
you're right
the big games are cancer-causing and ruin the sense of enjoyment of the passtime
unfortunately, the influx of newfag gamers and rapid, engineered deterioration of western civilization does not bode well for the industry in general
either for the consumers or developers
but there are still gems in the rough to be found and high-grade ore patches to mine

Didn't do that one. I've got a craving for some dungeon keeper 2 personally, think I have the spiritual successor on steam. Might give that a go when I'm done with borderlands 1 through pre sequel.

@TonyTheTiger @DioZeed @Kinochet @LTJG_Pliskin @Paulyfrog64 @Sui @YarnSmith @chudbere @bot @meticore The original Resident Evil/Biohazard has several callouts to it hidden throughout. For instance, the scene where the zombie dogs burst into the hall is a direct reference to the same thing happening in the first room of Alone in the Dark if you dont push a large piece of furniture in front of the window before a timer runs out.

had a love/hate relationship with it

@DioZeed @Kinochet @LTJG_Pliskin @Paulyfrog64 @Sui @TonyTheTiger @YarnSmith @chudbere @bot @meticore Fuck, I just remembered that Interplay was also responsible for the original Alone in the Dark trilogy, and that rather bad Lord of the Rings CRPG. Is there a genre they did not directly pioneer? It's a shame they stagnated at the end of the 90s.

@DioZeed @Kinochet @LTJG_Pliskin @Paulyfrog64 @Sui @TonyTheTiger @YarnSmith @chudbere @bot @meticore Lets not forget Interplay's Castles! Duology, which was the direct precursor to the other, more famous, Stronghold series of games.

Stronghold another game way the fuck ahead of its time
-

@DioZeed @Kinochet @LTJG_Pliskin @Paulyfrog64 @Sui @TonyTheTiger @YarnSmith @chudbere @bot @meticore A bit too ahead of it's time really, the GFX didn't do the gameplay justice, and it made it difficult to really get into the game overall. Once you got over that hurdle, it was a unique strategy and management game.

Ain't that the fucking truth.
I can't say I'm a fan of any franchise anymore that hasn't already died, and even then it'll probably get sequels/remakes that'll ruin it.
