It’s All A Sad Coincidence To Be Sure, Isn’t It?

Someone or some entity is working overtime to heighten fear among the American populous and one wonders what their ultimate motivation must be. There are new stories pointing to killer fungi diseases, one being dubbed Vally Fever, which is purportedly on the loose and spreading because of, wait for it, climate change. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, do be on the lookout for laced, killer eye drops, causing blindness and possibly deadly to boot. Not to worry though, some arm of the bureaucratic government, called the CDC is hot on the case at the people’s expense.

@HSTG good call. Perhaps, that's why Epsom salts are especially helpful at many simple ailments, including to an extent, fungal conditions, because of it's sulfur molecules. Just a reminder, that Epsom salts is composed chiefly of magnesium sulfide. I wonder if there is a connection? I didn't study hard enough at my chemistry lessons, so I fell behind and now my chemistry is rudimentary at best.

@HSTG thank you for correcting me. That's the kind of expertise that I failed to grasp in my chemistry education. I must make a note of that. I think I'll do a search on the differences between sulfates and sulfides. I'm happy I pursued this topic now. I do have a question, though, so there was a connection between the sulfur compounds in Epsom salts being a deterrent to some types of fungi then? Also, thanks for helping me realize that copper sulfate does have a purpose.

I loved and still love chemistry but because of my initial inattention, coupled with not finding a motivational tutor, I fell behind right around chemical equations. Perhaps in the next life I'll figure it out. Thanks again. I'm going to do that search now.

@HSTG forgive me, I'm also @agentcasey in all my incarnations as well I only just realized that, I replied as a different entity, even I have a hard time keeping up with my identities.

@HSTG so, if I'm understanding the terminology correctly, when sulfur reacts with metals such as copper and magnesium the resulting compounds become sulfates? I know I'm being simplistic but it helps me to absorb the learning. Therefore, sulfur reacting with copper produces the compound copper sulfate and a similar reaction with magnesium produces magnesium sulfate? So the fate suffix denotes some interaction with metals?

@HSTG I do all sorts of self medicating with the substance. I usually buy the type that's allegedly fit for human consumption and I put it in empty (00) capsules as a magnesium supplement. I realize that too much can have undesired results but I never go that far. I also make my own calcium supplements using egg shells. Obviously, I'm not giving medical advise and I do boil the shells and dry them at around 150° for as long as they become dried and then I turn them into powder using a grinder.

Quite risky for a guy who isn't that good at chemistry, I know but I haven't died as yet. I do the same sort of thing with my quail eggs too. I have a lot of weird eating habits for a human. I eat lemons whole skin pulp seeds, everything and I do this every day. I've been having good results. I live in the 40° latitude zone, so as soon as the angles permit, I get ample sunshine, weather permitting for vitamin D. Naturally, I do supplement in the fall and winter months.

It's worth it. Epsom salt is awesome. It's what hospitals put in most IVs. Great
      anti-inflammatory.

It’s a great area of study and I think it’s time that I revisit my love for chemistry. Now that I’m more attentive and doubly receptive I think I may be able to make up for lost time.

@techriot I'm not sure. I know most sulfides are toxic and you shouldn't apply them like you would sulfates.

@HSTG I used Epsom salts for baths initially, however, I like to experiment and if a man can't experiment on himself, then who can? My argument is this, since hospitals use it intravenously, and many people attest that the magnesium can be absorbed via the skin, my contention is, that taking it orally have got to have positive results as well. That way, less magnesium is wasted. I'm a hacker and it is a way of life.

I kept hearing that citrus peels contain equal amounts if not more than the rest of the fruit and for a while I would save the peels, dry them, grind them and ingest them via capsules. However, I've decided to wash the lemons, oranges and grapefruits and ingest the entire fruit, in bit size pieces, including the seeds, rind, pup, what have you. I admit it is an acquired taste, it is experimental but I've noticed no adverse effects. It's something I'm working on. Oh, before I forget, thanks for that link, that price for a 50 pound bag is phenomenal, that's roughly $1.59 per pound, although they'll probably kill me with shipping consts, we'll see.
