Impressed by how well run the @feditips et al accounts are run. They work with the projects asking if the timing is right before sharing. They are aware of the effect they have when doing a shoutout, and they care about the long term more than oportunistic posts. Hats off to whoever is behind these accounts.

patak (patak@m.webtoo.ls)'s status on Monday, 30-Jan-2023 19:34:38 JST patak @FediThing @feditips It is rare to be so thoughtful, or maybe I'm still surprised at how much folks care around here. Thanks a lot, what you do is very helpful for the fediverse and maybe more for us that haven't been around for that long are still amazed daily by it.

FediThing (fedithing@tech.lgbt)'s status on Monday, 30-Jan-2023 19:34:39 JST FediThing Aww hey thank you, that's so nice! :blobcatheart:
I hope what I do is useful to the Fedi, really glad if it is!
And yeah, often devs (and artists, musicians etc) ask to hold off publicity until a specific moment, so it seems sensible to listen to them ?

patak (patak@m.webtoo.ls)'s status on Monday, 30-Jan-2023 21:31:14 JST patak @fediversereport @FediThing @feditips Another interesting dynamic due to the lack of algorithms is that your experience and reach in the fediverse depends a lot more on your network and connections with other folks. They are the ones that will share your posts and reach their close followers, that will then see the boost as an endorsement and keep the wave going. So being a good actor makes a huge difference in the fediverse.

Fediverse Report (fediversereport@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 30-Jan-2023 21:31:15 JST Fediverse Report @FediThing @patak @feditips Absolutely true. I think another aspect that plays a role is the lack of algorithms, and peoples awareness that there are no algorithms. If you want to grow and increase your outreach, than that fully depends on the quality of the content you are able to deliver. There is no hoping an algorithm picks you up and amplifies you. You have to be at your best, which massively incentivizes being helpful to the people around you.

FediThing (fedithing@tech.lgbt)'s status on Monday, 30-Jan-2023 21:31:16 JST FediThing I wonder if it is to do with the structure, that this is normal behaviour on here?
With centralised competitive platforms they grow by essentially destroying each other.
With federated open platforms on the Fediverse, they grow by helping each other.
When Mastodon recently gained millions of new users, that also greatly helped other Fediverse platforms, because each new Mastodon user was a potential person to interact with on the other platforms too.
For example PeerTube accounts started getting more followers and viewers because PeerTube accounts can be followed and interacted with from Mastodon.
