I think Soapbox should host their own Gitea instance at git.soapbox.pub to get away from GitLab.

@tallship @james @alex +1, GitLab is absolute trash. Can't search for issues if not logged in, slow, bloated, randomly throws errors, cloudflare MitM, hides some FOSS repos behind the login wall... Even GitHub is better.

@james Yes, absolutely James!, Hey @alex I think it would be a great idea too, but Forĝejo instead of Gitea:

      https://forgejo.org

Leading the mass migration of many other prominent git forges, and more everyday, #Codeberg itself abandoned #Gitea and switched to #Forgejo a couple of weeks ago.

We could issue a big press release that #SoapboxPub (Soapbox/Rebased), one of the most popular Fediverse platforms, has moved development to the new, fully free and #FOSS based Forĝejo, a software development platform federating over #ActivityPub in the #Fediverse, supporting the continuing mission of Free Open Source and Privacy respecting social networking technologies for the global community of people everywhere.

On a side note, for about a month straight at the beginning of the #Twitter_egress, I made close to a hundred Twitter posts and Quote Posts there with links promoting #Soapbox Pub, #JoinTheFedi, and #Btrfly - and not a single one was blocked, taken down, or even tagged with warning flags Muahahaha!

Not bad, if I don't say so myself, considering it was a Twitter account I had abandoned, having laid dormant for over ten years.

Seems they were too busy squashing all the #mastobrand bugs.

Oh, there's another new Soapbox #SaaS provider too. More on that later.

Forgejo – Beyond coding. We forge.
Forgejo is a self-hosted lightweight software forge. Easy to install and low maintenance, it just does the job.

@tallship @james @alex I think the biggest issue is CI, because soapbox utilities CI a lot from what I observed.

Also I believe it's better for forgejo to get stable federation support before moving to it.

@colinsmatt11 @tallship @james Yeah, it’s a combination of we rely heavily on GitLab CI, and one of our maintainers really doesn’t want to leave GitLab. Even if we had the time to undertake such a major effort, not everyone would be on board. And we’d do such an effort to gain… what? GitLab is FOSS. We’re already doing the FOSS thing vs using GitHub. This is a slippery slope, and if we give autists what they want eventually there will be no web UI anymore, we’re just sending patch files to each other over email. That may be a fine strategy for people who don’t do anything, but not for us. Quit moving the goal posts! (not you, I’m speaking generally)
