@yangwenli@cawfee.club Wondering because I've been using a Google Pixel for the last few years but there isn't really any solid plain Android alternative and Google's software(and hardware) quality has been going downhill fast since COVID-19.

@dwarf going from Android to iphone makes you feel like going from a pc to a console if you get what I mean @Dwarf likes this. -

@dwarf apps are generally a bit better and the business model of the maker isn't based on selling data, otherwise there's not much of a difference @Dwarf likes this. -

@yangwenli@cawfee.club I liked my PS3! In the end I just want something that works without bugs or security issues. 3 years is definitely not long enough software support anymore these days. Though the iPhone is thoroughly overpriced so that sucks...

@yangwenli@cawfee.club @lain@lain.com I will miss my F-Droid store for sure. Open source software has a place in the world.

the only reason I see to buy an iPhone is for some reason you are required to develop for iPhone, and then you should get your boss (or customer as the case may be) to buy it for you. -

@gnu2@gnusocial.jp My work phone is an iPhone SE 2020, it's a pretty decent device although way too small for my hands. It's surprisingly fast compared to my Google Pixel 3a XL, though the battery life is nothing to write home about.

@dwarf that my test iphone! and its battery life is way better than my Samsung Galaxy A51, and pretty much any other Android device I have used in the last 13 years, but then again its not my daily driver so that is probably not apples to apples -

@gnu2@gnusocial.jp my previous work phone was a Samsung a50 and it was so so so so slow, I'd rather never ever touch a Samsung again

@dwarf my SO has the A50 and I can't tell the difference, and from a memory perspective I haven't had anything preform so well in ages (like since the BlackBerry days) so I don't know what to tell you. I suspect you are doing a lot of stuff that I would consider "weird shit" -

@gnu2@gnusocial.jp the best part is that I only used it for 2fa and it did a terrible job at that :blobcat_oh_no:

@dwarf If you want phone that just works and don't want to care about anything related to how it works, why it works etc it is good option. Also apple ecosystem compatibilty features are nice.
Downsides - Price, price of apps, privacy-related issues, no apps that are not on appstore, no customization
It doesn't get you anything android cannot give you (except of camera, which can get you pictures better than from professional cameras give you if you don't color correct them manually afterwards, and mo other phones are better than that), but it gives you all of features hassle-free and more stable, like Game Consoles in comparison to PC gaming
Most of tech people on Fediverse are people who like tweaking and setting up things, so they won't reccomend you one, because they don't see everything working out of box as advantage good enough to compensate for price, privacy issues and lack of customizations@Dwarf likes this. -

@dwarf well I don't use 2FA at all if I can avoid it. Facebook locking my account until I activated 2FA is the primary reason that gnu social became my primary social media. I have my google voice number set at my 2FA for work so that at least I don't have to find my phone in order to get work done. -

@gnu2@gnusocial.jp can't do my work without 2fa sadly :( I'd rather have hardware token based 2fa but my employer is rather slow with anything that makes IT people happy

@dwarf As a person who loses stuff all the time, I think I'd hate that even more. #ADHD
