I also don't think people should see the same toot twice.

You can create a feature request on the Mastodon Github:

Looking around in https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues a little bit:

It seems that there has been a bug that blocked domain appeared from account feed, but which was fixed three month ago. https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/26823

I also found https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/28397 that user domain blocks do not prevent viewing updated profile information, which is not fixed yet.

I didn't look deep, but didn't notice any known issues suggesting fundamental flaws in blocking.

@matthieu_xyz Bluesky and Threads are an incompatible example because they are a monolithic system, something the fediverse is not.

The crux of my argument was that the network cannot be expected to fully support the feature that would only exist in one server software, especially given how there is no formal standard past ActivityPub to follow on these things to be considered "well behaved".

Since you've mentioned that you do not mind having only a small part of the network supporting this feature then opening a feature request at your relevant software provider - in your case, Mastodon - is the way to go: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues

Unfortunately with over 3.6k open issues I wouldn't hold my breath so I'd look into one of the faster moving server options, e.g. Firefish, as they are more open to feature suggestions at the moment.

I'm really sorry, I cannot find anything in the github about this issue.

Would you be comfortable filing a report about it as a bug? The github is at https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues

@starseekr @eviloatmeal @thomasrost So we have two big issues here:

    1) No notification if someone replies without your @
    2) Sometimes no UI indication in the home timeline that a post is in replay to another post.

I'm trying to see if this has already been reported in the GitHub issues, but I'm really bad at searching. If any of you can find it, please let me know. If not we need to create new issues for this.
