   Have had extensive interactions with the criminal justice system. Decisions tend to be made by people with this mindset, almost all of whom have had no interactions with the criminal justice system and almost none of whom even bat an eye when a cop unironically refers to what he does as "catching bad guys". Then felons can't vote. Hilarious.

   Many such cases. 75% of the UN resolutions that mention a specific region or country by name mention either Israel or Palestine. (Don't blame me, I voted for Kony in 2012.)
   
   The Israel thing is a Cold War holdover: we set up Israel, so the USSR propped up Palestine, this was the thin end of the wedge, you know, this is why you have the JRA going all the way to Lebanon to stage attacks to take over Israeli airports. The conference in Mecca was explicitly about using Arab nationalism to prevent the Middle East from falling under either US or USSR hegemony and it was largely successful, we kept propping up Israel and the USSR would send AKs and SAM batteries to whichever country was a bigger pain in our ass at the moment (a strategy that was cheaper than having a fixed point like we did; we managed to flip Egypt and Jordan eventually, but Putin continued with sending stuff to Iran or Turkey or Syria). The situation has gotten weirder (e.g., CIA using Hamas to process poppies into heroin, then cheap fent flooded the market so we pulled out, which is why the October attack happened and then basically nothing since then, because the money has dried up; then recently Assad and the Ayatollah have been killed so I imagine Erdogan is looking over his shoulder and I figure he's next), but it is still projecting a moral layer onto geopolitics, which are fundamentally amoral and more about money and material than about morality.

   I don't think "I don't want the goddamn government to tell me a damn thing" is, as you have suggested, an idea planted by the government.

   Every time someone screwed with me in a way that caused me a problem, they were wielding institutional authority, whether directly or indirectly. The second you build a lever, a psychopath figures out how to get his hands on it: don't build one and they won't. You're here on fedi, not on Twitter: what is the main difference? No one runs this place; it is essentially anarchist. You are free to do what you want. It is not a coincidence that the people that want to centralize control of this place and stop "misinformation" are funded by the NED (a CIA project, which is now a matter of public record) and the Ford Foundation and the German government.    Well, I ain't exactly flush lately myself and I definitely didn't come from money. But there's "I would like for this to be affordable" and there's "I want to subject everyone to a government program" and the former is fine but the latter is an attack. Look at the goddamn FCC, look at the goddamn TSA. Hell, look at the FBI. I was banging this drum back when it got me slotted into the "lefty" box and I am still banging it now that it gets me declared an evil right-winger. Central administration is a tool of control, zero exceptions, full goddamn stop.

   Hey, this is funny: @Seirdy , despite blocking FSE and having FSE on the evil supervillain list, is scraping FSE through the gopher interface. (cc @mint ) Someone tell him or maybe he'll see this when he scrapes it; I'll leave tcpdump running until I've verified that this post gets through to his scraper. Why he'd be scraping FSE is something you can probably guess, but he's been scraping the public timeline from there.
