The conversations.im #XMPP server is now free to use. I verified the legitimacy of this message with the lead developer of the app. Pretty awesome that they decided to stop making money from something because they were able to meet their needs elsewhere, :-) #privacy
For those that run an #XMPP server, does it seem safe enough to enable XEP-0357 if one is concerned about third party data leaks to push notification services? Is #OMEMO enough to nullify concerns? I'm using #Monocles and #Prosody and I'm trying to optimize battery usage on #Android / #LineageOS
Edit: Daniel Gultsch of Conversations.im answered my questions Thanks!
@icedquinn @ar @49016 @sophie @adiz Conversations.im is even worse
You can't do the most basic of basic moderation on there, what a mess.
>i blame the poor state of xmpp on the death of the desktop programmer.
That's because there's entire generations and countries getting into computers from fucking mobile devices.
@HistoPol @debacle @thevril @pluralistic Both Prav and Quicksy accounts can be used with any XMPP client, and can talk to any XMPP server - no lock-in.
And those who don't like using phone numbers for registration can use other services like https://conversations.im and still talk to Quicksy and Prav users.
