According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the goal was to create a buffer zone, making it more difficult for the Russians to attack Ukraine. Many analysts, however, saw the offensive as a Ukrainian attempt to draw Russian forces away from the Donetsk front, where the Ukrainian army has been on the defensive for months. There are signs that Ukraine’s surprising move in Kursk is now bearing fruit. On Thursday, Ukraine’s Chief of Defence, Oleksandr Syrsky, told CNN that the Russian offensive against the strategically important key city of Pokrovsk has stalled. – “In the past six days, the enemy has not advanced a single meter towards Pokrovsk. In other words, our strategy is working,” said the Defence Chief. Syrsky further stated that this has also meant that Russian attacks in other parts of eastern Ukraine have decreased in intensity.
