@cferdinandi Not quite: signal provides you a way to send encrypted messages moderated by a server (that knows who talks to whom and when, but not the content; though Signal devs try to limit what they can know).
Hyphanet is a fully decentralized network that also hides this metadata by hiding messages among small encrypted pieces it uses for general communication and uploads to computers of other participants of the network.
So outside observers cannot see whether you write at all.

If Bluesky Social, PBC, decides to ignore your PDS, no amount of relays you fire up would make your stuff available to people using the Bluesky social network.
So yes, it does very much mean separate *social* networks.
@J12t So, here's my rule of thumb: it makes a lot of sense to join an internetwork bigger than your actual network.
So if you're running a service that has 50M users, say, it doesn't make sense to join an internetwork with a total of 5M users. It would make sense to join one with 105M users, though.
