So Threads is starting to connect to Mastodon and the many other applications in the Fediverse starting today.

It's a baby step, for sure, but others will follow.

Which social network will be the next to follow?

Starting a test where posts from Threads accounts will be available on Mastodon and other services that use the ActivityPub protocol. Making Threads interoperable will give people more choice over how they interact and it will help content reach more people. I'm pretty optimistic about this.

@J12t So, here's my rule of thumb: it makes a lot of sense to join an internetwork bigger than your actual network.

So if you're running a service that has 50M users, say, it doesn't make sense to join an internetwork with a total of 5M users. It would make sense to join one with 105M users, though.

@J12t With that rule of thumb, I am not sure who could be next. I don't have a lot of MAU info for social networks. On this list, the big candidates would be VK and Tumblr.

@J12t However, that list doesn't have services that have <100M users. Last I saw, Medium is around 100M. There may be some others for whom the math gets very different as the number of users on the fediverse jumps past their own size.
