   @helge I think there is only one type of actor, and it is a JSON document with inbox and outbox properties. Requests are sent and received by servers, not actors.

   In the server-centric model of Fediverse everything is simple and clear, I wrote about this previously. Whereas in the actor-centric model, even the most basic things can not be explained without adding epicycles.

   The Federation Safety Enhancement Project calls for use of TBS. The TBS privileges mastodon dot art's blocklist. The mastodon dot art blocklist blocks a lot of bad actors, and a lot of good actors.

   In effect, widespread adopt of the FSEP proposal would mean cutting anarchists, among others, out of the Fediverse.

   And any criticism of the FSEP or TBS is immediately described as a racist attack on one person, regardless of the criticism.

   These actors did not emerge from the aether; they did not spring into existence ex nihilo. Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid had previously served in the Italian colonial police and as a general in the Somali National Army. We cannot point to examples of violence between state actors to illustrate or critique the absence of state actors.

   In the absence of state authority (and state violence), there would inevitably be conflict and violence among people. We cannot infer, however, from examples of state collapse and state failure, that the human condition in the absence of the state is the inevitable emergence of warlords and a chaotic and Hobbesian war of all against all.
