@evan my big question about this is: what is the level of competition we need to encourage in order to get those benefits of the market? for example, there's no clear way to say Android is 'beating' iOS, or vice versa. are two options enough?

@evanprodromou @evan out of curiosity, what are the real implications of building on top of ATProto? how can there be “control” over the protocol? are you talking about consensus via standards bodies?

@tchambers i’m in the mood to start following more social web (read: fediverse/mastodon/etc.) groups here. i know of @socialmedianews and @spreadmastodon. do you have any suggestions?

since it’s friday, i wanted to end the week by running a small experiment here, if y’all are amenable to that :)

@tchambers @activitypubblueskybridge there seems to be a ~Conventional Wisdom~ that BS’s approach is incompatible with #ActivityPub-compliant fediverse members. i’m lost as to where that is coming from — to me, it seems that BS is merely composing existing technologies (many of which are W3 standards!) and packaging them into a comprehensive, values-driven protocol. @tchambers @activitypubblueskybridge spent my morning reading through the #ATProtocol docs and was happy to see a little more info in this blog post about federation. [1/3]

@tchambers @activitypubblueskybridge now, i’d appreciate if someone could point me to where i’m wrong, but there doesn’t seem to be anything that would prevent an AP-compliant application (say, for example, Mastodon) from ALSO using ATProto. any thoughts? [3/3]

@activitypubblueskybridge back at it again 😤
can someone with a keener eye (and maybe more experience than me) explain the difference between the AppView and Feed Gen in this blog post’s diagram?

@Gargron @rmondello +1 to this! Passkeys would even further the frictionless sign-in experience and I think would encourage people to join (and therefore support) more instances as Mastodon grows.
