I'm a proud member of the "'hard no' movement against AI" that believes "there is something grotesque about these simulacra, the people who push them on us, this whole affair."
It's not just that genAI is a theftbot. Not just that it's being used to destroy *everything*. It is *deeply* anti-human.
Trump literally making America dumber

I don’t think it’s exaggeration to say the tech industry has figured out how to hack humans & it’s going to go very badly for the humans.
“Beginning to feel consumed by what I can only describe as climate anxiety but for AI.”
Yeah. That.

still true

holy shit, just confirmed this for myself
Amazon is censoring the intro text to Robin Hood *only in America*
"In times of tyranny and injustice when law oppresses the people, the outlaw takes his place in history."

Well this is brilliant! 💚🌱
Details my brain adds:
USE WHAT YOU HAVE: repair, reuse, upcycle
BORROW: BuyNothing, friends, neighbors
SWAP: clothing swaps, seed/tool libraries
THRIFT: BuyNothing, craigslist, thrift stores, free stores
MAKE: craft, garden, create
BUY: local, non-corp, co-op, farm share

If y'all haven't read BULLSHIT JOBS, you really need to.
Trump is targeting the non-bullshit jobs (using AI)—this quote from @bcmerchant.bsky.social's BLOOD IN THE MACHINE newsletter is really 🎯only it's not just artists & public servants, it's professors & scientists, anyone doing REAL work.
I didn’t think it was possible to be a *bigger* fan of #solar than I already was, but Day 3 of a city wide outage where I not only have power but I have more than I can use/store and can give it away to the neighbors? That’ll do it. #Pittsburgh #energysky
ngl writing solarpunk in an extended power outage from a climate-driven storm while getting by on solar+battery pretty well (with extra to share with the neighbors) while simultaneously the fascists accelerate us down a path of Dark Degrowth is a hell of a weekend vibe
Still just absolutely blows my mind that the US is like "Germany! Be more fascist!" and Germans are like "No"
The irony would outright kill Republicans if they hadn't already sold their souls.
I’m watching Gatsby…
I wonder how the Gilded Age turned out for everyone… I’m sure it was fine.
@inthehands while I agree with humiliating fascists, pretty much without reservation, I'm not talking about approaching someone who thinks these are the "good guys" & talking them out of believing that
That's not gonna work.
They will need to be convinced by the actual destruction of things they care about. And they will need to (correctly) attribute that to these dudes who did it, not some trans kid in Maine.
Meanwhile, I found this a good framing of where we are: https://www.liberalcurrents.com/the-present-crisis-and-the-end-of-the-long-90s/
this is gonna sound crazy but
(enough) people gotta decide that Andrew Tate and Elon Musk and Donald Trump are not actually the good guys in this story
that's pretty much it
that's what needs to happen
Protesting & voting are important (do those), but I'm a strong believer in using the talents/resources you have to make change.
Getting creative is how we change the world.
@prisonculture.bsky.social often shares this fantastic resource, and it's great for ideas.

Sometimes I use the list as a reminder of the things I'm already doing or have done because I tend to forget and then wonder why I'm exhausted or burnt out.

Sometimes I use the list as a reminder that there are a LOT of people out there doing all these things, all the time, and that helping someone do their thing is *very important* and reinventing the wheel is very not necessary.

The billionaires think they're speedrunning America through the fall of democracy and rise of their fascist utopia
but
in reality they're speed-educating Americans about why we have a democracy and rule-of-law in the first place.
I am glad to see Harvard finding their courage.
Institutions are only as strong as the individuals who run it.
It is not someone else's job to stop fascism. That's not how this works. It is all of our jobs. We fight it together or we lose.
And we'll only keep the rights we fight for.
This whole thread is an excellent primer on fighting fascism:
