Mistakes happen. Stuff gets lost. Not your fault that what they've ordered will take excessive paperwork and labor to execute. You're just doing your job. #MaliciousCompliance
These people have never blamed themselves or Trump for anything & they're sure not gonna start now.
Giving people someone else to blame is a service Trump provides.
There is no scenario where this is a good thing or results in anything but a lot of harm. There will be no satisfaction with that, so don't look for it.
Put all your energy into building resiliency through connection and community. THAT is something they can't stop and is where you not only reduce harms but take back power.
Y'all *really* need to not go down the path of "Oh, Trumpers will regret their life choices when they see the impact of the tariffs!" or whatever.
When have they ever regretted their life choices?
The worse things get, the more they'll look for scapegoats. This is how fascism works. This is WHY it thrives even as it's hurting its own followers. 1/2
@cstross I suppose crashing the economy will reduce our carbon output (and our demand for goods from the rest of the world). I get that America isn't the only country on the planet, but we do burn a hell of a lot of carbon and that's about to skyrocket.
@cstross I mean... that's kinda a big IF. I'm the furthest thing from a climate doomer but it's undeniable that Trump will burn a ton of carbon in the next four years, assuming it's not 12. We're gonna blow through limits without even slowing down (and all that green energy? I expect him to find a way to funnel money to FF companies for green energy while *also* finding ways to pump even more oil out of the ground. Or cancel tax credits entirely)
@roadriverrail I think it *does* take effort, especially in a world bent on isolating us in every way possible. The stone soup only worked because people already had a community where such a thing could happen. Lots of people are out here thinking they gotta save the world all by themselves when what they need is to know where the soup pot is and figure out what they can bring.
@roadriverrail those are good and practical guidelines. I would add: do things that build structural resilience, for yourself, your family, your community. That's part of your "don't cause fatigue" and "increase your energy". But it can be easy to overlook the harder, slower work of building the connections and community needed for survival when everything is on fire and demanding immediate attention. And yet, that's how people burn out and can't sustain the fight. Building resilience is key.
Not only do not obey, do not assume there's nothing you can do, that you're helpless against the all powerful regime. Yes,they will do terrible things. But they can't stop you doing a thousand good ones. Get your oxygen mask secure first, use the tools already in place, don't assume it's pointless to <insert action here> just because they'll make it illegal later--that's a good reason to do it now. Don't game out ways to give in before they're even in office.
I'm gonna need a minute to process the nightmare. I put all my effort in trying to prevent the fascist takeover, not planning for the catastrophe.
That was the right choice. Pull out all the stops to prevent the terrible thing from happening. I'm proud of everyone who did that. I'm horrified and terrified 71M people voted for Fascist America
Make no mistake: the fascists are ready to roll.
I'm gonna process, regroup & figure out how to survive. This is not 2016โit is much much worse @scalzi
PROTECTING DEMOCRACY I'm being very careful re:spreading reports of election violence/threats. If we say a 17yo punched a Dem woman, we need to also say he got arrested immediately and charged w/assault. If we hear bomb threats in GA we need to also say they're non-credible &from Russia.
The point of these things is to terrorize and keep people from showing up at the polls.
But people like Philly DA are here to say FAFO to those who want to fuck with our elections
Despite the insanity, despite Trump trying to foment violence, it's an incredibly safe election so far.
People are voting in INSANELY RECORD numbers.
A few lunatics might show up at the Capitol with a flare gun & say "the FBI can't do anything!" (Dear Reader: the FBI did indeed "do something"), but even if some Trumper manages to be clever whilst in the cult, we're prepared for their bullshit.
They don't stand a chance against a people determined to have free and fair elections.
@phaedral this is *definitely* a YOU thing--first, the shadow in the Ep1 poster is a prediction of the future not a callback to the past (like the Harris poster) & the Harris poster is a positive illustration not a menacing one like Star Wars. It's literally got nothing in common except the visual use of a shadow, which TONS of other artists have used as a literary technique.
It's also weird to say a callback to Ruby Bridges is "infantalizing" given the insane courage of that little girl.
