I know, I know, I pick on Apple UI the most. But here's another UI/UX absolute NO-NO.
Notice how the control for Mail Categories changes form and size & not only that, but also changes the sizing of my column.
No control should change your window's layout based on its state. That's just a big no-no.
Also I don't like how the "All Mail" button hides when it isn't the active state. Why? People will think of this as a segmented control and segmented controls don't behave this way.
Happy 25th Birthday, Aqua!!! Aqua raised the bar for what a Desktop UI should be. Steve Jobs was so giddy in introducing Aqua to the world back in 2000.
We’ve yet to get a UI redesign again of this magnitude. Yosemite removed the magic of Aqua and Big Sur downright killed it.
Here are some gorgeous renditions of Aqua by Finnish designer @tuomas_h. Find this and more on his Dribbble account.
I honestly just find like it gets more in the way than anything.
For example, notification summaries have been either wrong or confusing at best. It ads another step (tap) to actually see what it summarized. I check because I do not trust it anymore.
Also for social/communication apps, it uses the wrong person’s profile pic for the summary’s associated icon.
Walgreens: hey, you just picked up your last refill. Should we contact your doctor for additional refills for the future?
Me: yes please!
Walgreens: hey, we got additional refills but we also tried to refill but your insurance won’t cover it?
Me: yeah, I wonder why? Why would you try and refill after I just picked a refill up yesterday? I just needed you to contact my doc for more future refills. Dorks.
Apple really needs to develop an editor view for customizing home screens and Control Center. It’s so broken that the slightest movement can mess everything up in an instant. If they had a separate editor view, you can Apply it or Cancel it if you don’t like it and go back to what you had before.
Either develop this or fine-tune your current style of editing because I shouldn’t be afraid to add a widget to my Home Screen without messing up my current layout completely. LOL
@cocoadog@WarnerCrocker@jeff I do hope we can move from this sentiment quickly and focus on re-electing him. Yes, I said the same thing too but I know that these messages do not help especially for those who are on the fence. Our comments won't help us in persuading them Biden is still the better choice.
I remember when 1Password was a shining example of a good Mac Citizen app when it was native and fun. The new passwords app, although simple, is giving me vibes from that time long ago with 1Password and for that, I freakin’ LOVE it.
