Some thoughts about law and force: Law is a tool to organize people. Force is a method to subjugate beasts. People are beasts who respect laws. People who do disregard laws must be treated as beasts: with force. A king who acts above the law is an animal king: a beast that reacts only to force.

@tk I have a mental sticky note that says “Don't put quotes of any kind around the regular expression in a `[[ =~ ]]` test”. My go-to template is to instead store the regex in a variable and then call it without quotes: `re='^foo'; if [[ "$myvar" =~ $re ]]`
