@thomasfuchs why portable? I just have 3 separate Mastodon accounts on 3 separate servers for 3 purposes/communities. Works fine, easy to switch between them.

@dlx @Gargron sounds like trouble. All Mastodon following across servers is keyed by the handle which is probably case sensitive. So unlikely to work by just a simple local rename.

Account rename through migration works quite well on Mastodon though. You could try making a new account with the desired name and migrate to that.
