@kmcshane 25 years ago I worked in a very small company, where I had a lot of pressure *and* trouble with my boss, with whom I even shared an office. When I came home late from work, I, not a gamer at all, used to play a few hours of Doom to free my head before going to bed. Made for “interesting” dreams.

EGA was actually the first I saw at all (on a PC, I mean, not counting the PET in the 70s and the block mode terminals on the uni data center's Cybers).
I had a slightly twisted beginning of computing experience, going from 8 bits to 60 and then 16. Finally felt really comfortable when I reached 32 (VAXen, Suns etc.). -

(We got VGA monitors in our university PC pools starting 1988. That was where I spent most of my time if not working, studying, or sleeping. Or at least it felt that way.) -

Wouldn’t it be great fun to take these tons of binders with specifications, and requirements, and experience with the existing system, give them to the “AI can program” proponents, and let have AI have its way with them? I imagine that would be a real fun train wreck to watch.

Jyrgen N (jyrgenn@mas.to)'s status on Tuesday, 01-Aug-2023 01:34:53 JST Jyrgen N @thomasfuchs Right now my employer is investigating candidates to replace the current hospital information system (HIS) we are running. This will in any event be a horrendously complex software product, likely pieced together from pre-existing components of some supplier with lots of glue layers and adaptations and interfaces to other systems.

Eh... what I hear from friends about Austrian politics, I'd rather not praise Austria as the paragon of corruption-free democracy. -

I want it so that I can call it to my door, have it drop me off somewhere, and then it finds itself some parking space nearby. When I want to go back or elsewhere, I call it, and it picks me up where I am.
If this sounds a lot like a taxi, that's because it is. But other than with a taxi, I can leave my stuff in there, groceries and things.
