I am not entirely sure what a dating app is, tbh. I would like to think it's a tool for improving your dates. But I strongly suspect they are some attempt at a hook-up site.

No, I am not saying that. But I saw at least three separate threads other than yours about monetization. It's super important, and I am not opposed to it, but it seems a lot more interest in that aspect - generally among the 'grow fediverse community' - than in the new platforms or expanding adoption/audience.
I do know a lot about your involvement in AP, and have been a casual follower since b4 WV - definitely no hate!
But a medium is nothing more than it is.
No.
Humans apply value to things; they are not intrinsically valued.
Social networking software is for connecting people. That's what it's for, and that's what it does.
It is a medium, a tool. Just as a broadsheet originally was to inform.
Already your primary discussions are how to monetize this medium, rather than make it ~zero-cost for everyone to engage/host. Nearly everyone on social media walks around with a server-grade computer in their pocket.
:blinks repeatedly: wut?
"The mobile spectrum is for making us happy" "The telephone wire is for making us happy" "The back fence is for making us happy" "Language is for making us happy"
I wouldn't think the medium has any responsibility for the message, per se.
"The actions of communicating and interacting with others is for making us happy." ← This, this I can get behind.
Expecting a 5 paragraph executive review Monday… 😉
Actually, the subtext has probably sold me. Did you see the toot from Rama about Croatian Wikipedia?
ykw? Newsmast claims to be curated lists. They fairly clearly are not, but instead simply cherry picking topics most likely to rile people up and trying to give them more attention.
The same model used by Twitter, Facebook and its ilk.
The #fediverse is not a place I go to be riled up. It is a place I go to talk over the back fence with my online neighbours.
So I blocked them. And I think I will be doing more of that.
"I'm a statistician, not a doctor!" he misquoted.
Likert scale was the original (elliptical) reference.
dammit, where's the fifth point in this scale!
#CBC says the "glory days" of ad-free uninterrupted #streaming are gone.
No, no they are not.
I have ~800 #DVD/Blu-ray discs with digital backups on a #NAS. And I use #PeerTube (admittedly, mostly conference sessions.) I watch #podcasts which are not hosted on #surveillance economy sites. I listen to ad-free #audio streaming constantly.
What I DO NOT watch is CBC's streaming content, which were larded with #advertising, heavy surveillance. #Journalism #bias

Oooo… this week in #fediverse reports some interesting #ActivityPub softwares' updating, and at least one great article
For the #podcasting #fedi: #Peertube's #livechat plugin has a point release focused on #UX / #UI.
