    @evan

    :blinks repeatedly: wut?

    "The mobile spectrum is for making us happy" "The telephone wire is for making us happy" "The back fence is for making us happy" "Language is for making us happy"

    I wouldn't think the medium has any responsibility for the message, per se.

    "The actions of communicating and interacting with others is for making us happy." ← This, this I can get behind.

      @amgine it's not a value-free tool. Social networking software is for connecting people. That's what it's for, and that's what it does.

      @amgine Are you really trying to suggest that the 5-minute premium account POC I set up during an Open Space discussion yesterday are my "primary discussions" about ActivityPub? That's disappointing. I'm really sorry you don't know more about my work on AP, which is a major part of my life. I'd like my friends to have a better understanding of who I am and what I do.

      @evan

      No.

      Humans apply value to things; they are not intrinsically valued.

      Social networking software is for connecting people. That's what it's for, and that's what it does.

      It is a medium, a tool. Just as a broadsheet originally was to inform.

      Already your primary discussions are how to monetize this medium, rather than make it ~zero-cost for everyone to engage/host. Nearly everyone on social media walks around with a server-grade computer in their pocket.

      @amgine Well, there's me failing to AGF. Sorry about that. Thanks for the note.

      @evan

      No, I am not saying that. But I saw at least three separate threads other than yours about monetization. It's super important, and I am not opposed to it, but it seems a lot more interest in that aspect - generally among the 'grow fediverse community' - than in the new platforms or expanding adoption/audience.

      I do know a lot about your involvement in AP, and have been a casual follower since b4 WV - definitely no hate!

      But a medium is nothing more than it is.
