Happy Men’s Day to all my bros doing the difficult work of figuring out how to do “masculine” in a society that does not offer a positive template for doing so.

Happy Men’s Day, also, to my guys who decided to ditch masculinity altogether but feel that “man” is the best label for their gender. You can be a man any way you want to my dude.

A piece of software that fills the hyper-specific niche, “nncp but easy for anyone to setup and use”, could do a whole lot of good in the near future.

I installed it but have yet to configure or try it myself. It hasn’t seemed worth the (non-trivial) effort when I only know maybe half a dozen people who would be both capable of and interested in using it to share stuff with me. And I’m an anarchist with a goddamn Mastodon account!

@scribe @orbific I’m embarrassed that I only figured out how cheap ideas were halfway through grad school. But it’s liberating when you finally accept that — I’ll only have the time and energy to work on a few of mine and Thats Fine.

I really like that, @hypostase. My first thought, which I guess is bog-standard anarchism: “scaling this means telling people we’ve never met how to live their lives, and that’s what got us into this mess.”

This! If you can unscrew the pedals they can more easily use it as a “coaster bike” and learn how to balance and steer. I have taught adults and teens using this exact method.

Now I’m wondering how many proto-anarchists (and proto-communists) were murdered by the medieval Church for supposed “heresies”.

@playinprogress I hadn’t heard of this, but I seem to be having trouble finding it (ugh, remember when search was good?). Do you happen to have a link?

If you have an old plastic device with a coating that once made it feel slightly rubberized, but has since become uncomfortably sticky, I’m finding that isopropyl and a bit of elbow grease takes that coating off, leaving the smooth hard plastic beneath.

Does anyone know if there’s a better way to do this? I just reclaimed an old gaming mouse, and I’d like to attack an even older Alienware laptop next. Laptops should not be sticky.

I feel vulnerable sharing this with the Fediverse, but... I think I might want to try out a fountain pen.

@scribe one of my best and most liberal friends, who is very dear to me in spite of their stunning lack of political imagination, was incapable of differentiating the concept of “self actualization” from “having a job you really like”. That’s the pinnacle of human emotional development to some people and it’s heartbreaking.
