@mastodonmigration I really relate! Recently got on Bluesky and honestly it makes my mind downright jittery.
One of the things I didn't expect is that I've actually made more art/craft purchases from Mastodon users than I ever did with IG or Twitter - I got to know the people, saw their work, and wanted to support them.
Our local yarn store ran out of a product that I posted here because a Mastodon user on the West Coast called them up and ordered every single one they had in stock!
Three years ago my mom died, peacefully, at 96. She was complicated and kind, critical and fiercely loyal. She stopped talking to me when I first came out - and later apologized and became a fierce supporter of gay rights. She was a conservative born again Christian who drove Muslim women in Beirut to get abortions so they wouldn't be a victim of an honor killing, and voted pro choice every time she had the opportunity.
Gillian and Lindsay's death two years ago shocked many of us in the D.C. community. I'm glad to see that CNN picked up the story of the risks of renting from AirBnB and VRBO.
Any of my #knitting friends here tried sequence knitting, Cecelia Campochiaro's technique? The patterns are soothing to my mind, and I can't help but think that they might be soothing to knit, too.
Resting on heating pads and there's a knock at the door. It's a neighbor - "why aren't your boys out at the neighborhood picnic?" I didn't actually know there was one, but I explained that I was ill...and "Y'all need some fried chicken!" was her response.
We now have two paper plates, two bags of chips, a plate of fried chicken, and a plate of hamburgers.
I am at a work dinner with my husband. He sits to my left, the foremost authority on Medicare law is next to him. Across the table from me is a former Cabinet secretary. To my right is the CEO of a large, very influential healthcare advocacy organization. We are at a Fancy Restaurant.
Dinner is family style. When the mashed potatoes are passed to me, I take a spoonful, and then inadvertently DROP THEM ON MY HAND.
Yesterday my Uber driver, who was wearing an N95 mask, explained to me that he was just getting over a bad cold but didn't want his customers to worry.
Today, waiting for an elevator, a masked elderly gentleman told me that it would be best if I took another elevator. "I don't know what I have but no need to get it, if you don't mind taking another elevator."
Today I am appreciating the kindness of these strangers who are looking out for those who don't even know them.
