The small Norwegian city of Bergen has something most North American cities have tried to do, but still don't have — an *excellent* light rail system. Let's take a look at the Bybanen in depth!
The UK privatized most of its public bus systems decades ago, and the results have been... unimpressive, to say the least. Let's talk about why deregulation was a bad idea and why it's a blessing that cities are doing away with it.
Hello all,
If you’ve been following the news & discourse surrounding Substack as a platform recently, you might have heard the unfortunate news regarding their unwillingness to moderate what can only be described as hate speech.
I really try to live my values and I can’t in good conscience support a platform that enables this behavior. +
Much better wayfinding at the stop
And seemingly a TON of all electric buses
Seating is IMO much more comfortable
Easy access USB charges everywhere
The most noticeable thing is the combined way better bus ride quality and the better road quality makes the rider crazy smooth - seriously better than a Toronto streetcar it's wild.
Textured grab poles are *luxurious*
But there is more! The LED signage is way easier to read with the high def and high contrast white.
All door boarding of course, but with plug doors rather than ones that swing in and hit you.
Better on bus display usage is very nice
A Thread (and probably later a substack article):
I am in Germany, I must say the bus experience just absolutely obliterates what one experiences in Toronto (even though Toronto has better frequency) - so many potential learnings
