Fediverse, I plan to migrate to my own GoToSocial instance, but there is a major roadblock left.
What custom emoji should I import? Please serve me your finest imagery 👌

@killyourfm My retirement plan is now to hike the world, well done Jason!
@killyourfm Lordy, that’s one giant glass, I’d be slammed! Take care, don’t forget to drink a lot of water, and Tylenol can be your friend if water wasn’t enough 😄
Woo, the new @matrix Conference website is out, and I'm very happy with the result 🥳
Living your best life out there @killyourfm ! Your posts and pictures bring me joy :)
I got myself a ZV E10 (not the mark ii) after a long hiatus of snapping pictures.
Full manual is unnecessary, since there isn’t a lot of value in setting the ISO yourself except in very specific cases.
I’ve found value in finding the balance between shutter speed and aperture though! With zebras in the UI to spot overexposure it’s less difficult than I thought!
But at the end of the day, better shoot at your own pace than not shoot at all
To give particular examples, sometimes I want to prioritize shutter speed when I have fast moving targets (e.g. animals, including kids)
Sometimes I prioritize aperture when I want to shoot portraits.
Also, darktable can be intimidating and there’s a steep learning curve, but it’s well worth it!
50mm is great! My camera is an APSC sensor with a crop factor of 1.5 so my 50mm “feels” like a 75mm full frame, and I love how it makes “focused” shots, because there’s only so much you can put in the frame.
The one thing I wish I learned earlier is not to use f/1.8 all the time. Sometimes more depth looks just better. And it’s also more forgiving, the AF doesn’t need to be exactly focused on the right thing!
You can’t recover from physical, lens induced blur 😄
@killyourfm also welcome again to Team Existential Crisis, not the best performing team in the world but the crew is welcoming.
@killyourfm I recently read Deep Work by Newport. I expected it to be a stupid productivity book, but it really wasn't that. It has some "become a true winner that wins at winning" vibes, but also great advice.
There's a section talking about craftsmanship, and how there was nothing noble being a blacksmith but people were still proud to do what they did. It was eye opening for me. Doing my job as best as I can is a source of satisfaction, at least as much as the output of my job.
This is absolutely stunning. I need hiking holidays too, the kids will get some cardio training soon 😁
Properly stunning, I love the composition of the picture. It looks calm and balanced.
I used to subscribe to Apple Music and then stopped. When I subscribed again, I had lost all my hand-curated playlists that I had carefully crafted over the years.
I’m done with this subscription-based life where everything you cherish can and will be taken away from you. So I took the radical decision to own my music, like we used to when iPods were fashionable.
And you can too.

The more I look at the geopolitical situation, the more I think the cheapest, most robust and realistic option for Europe to reclaim its digital independence is to massively support @postmarketOS and its upstreams.
No need to mine or buy rare earths, tons of jobs created along the way, countless devices saved from the landfill where they would have poisoned the soil, and even the possibility to monetize other countries’ waste.
It’s just what makes the most sense.
Kept nodding as I read through this
Fully packed room for the Matrix devroom this year again!
Re last-post, this morning I wasn't walking the dog.
I was swimming the dog.
Happy to help promote this community with Matrix’ official channels 😇
Palms were offline devices that only synced with your computer when put on a docking station.
You could read and reply to emails offline, book or cancel meetings, and sync with your computer later. The latest versions allowed you to snap pictures and listen to your music.
No servers running constantly. No data spilled everywhere. Days worth of battery on a single charge.
The future stole our cables, and it took our attention span and our privacy with it.
Since I got back into RSS, I’ve been reading a lot more blogs.
They feel authentic, I usually know the author’s bias, and they dont have the same monetization/editorial issues as most press websites.
Democracy needs more indie web. We need to make “how to publish a blog” part of public schools’ curriculum.
Chronic enthusiast. Technology should be about improving people's lives. Automation is a double edged sword.I might be oblivious to some trending issues. I rely heavily on mute lists for my mental health and to have energy where I can be useful. Broken English, existential crises, and dad jokes.
