If you would be so kind to entertain some questions to clarify my understanding.

I am not someone who uses social media for professional purposes, but I am looking for more information about certain topics. If I am on a small server, I and search for those topics, I might not see all of hashtags or be able to connect to the community that shares that interest. Is that correct?

Now the opposite scenario. Let's say I am account that is only here for professional purposes. I start my own server so as to better control my account and content. I post using hashtags. Does the fact I am in a very small server impact people's ability to find my posts in a hashtag search?

One more question. I'm a professional on my own server. Does my hashtag visibility in searches increase as my followers increase?

Thank you in advance. I am very interested in more journalists joining Mastodon, and I am watching whether news organizations and journalists will start their own instances.

Second, I have a follow up questions.

Let's say I am account on Twitter that is looking to transition to Mastodon. I do not set up my own instance. Some of my followers look at what instance I am on and pick the same one. They end up with about 200 followers each.

If I post something with a hashtag, are those hashtags only found in searches by people using the same instance used by my followers and me, or does it expand to the instances of my followers' followers?

Does the answer change if my followers boosted the specific post with the hashtags and it was seen by their followers on different instances?
