@manu @evan most things seem to work better on a small instance but this is a pretty significant source of friction. I think some clients handle it better but it’s hard to tell.

jph@moth.social's status on Monday, 06-Feb-2023 01:04:17 JST jph @jfred @evan I ended up qualified yes for partial. I think the results would probably be more lopsided if it was 100%

jph@moth.social's status on Monday, 06-Feb-2023 00:52:12 JST jph @mjgardner @evan yeah going through my options from an earlier thread and it seems the best I can do is get the same sources but they buy green energy offsets to pad the percentage. One of them does it for the same price as the standard rate so I guess it wouldn’t hurt but I certainly don’t feel great about the shell game.

jph@moth.social's status on Monday, 06-Feb-2023 00:49:34 JST jph @evan pretty sure we get a fair amount of hydro here but a fair amount of gas as well. We have a few recent solar installations but I’m unclear on how exactly they sell their power

jph@moth.social's status on Monday, 06-Feb-2023 00:48:44 JST jph @ilja @evan the website wasn’t working last night but I was able to get in this morning. Reading the fine print on my bill I was eventually able to find a breakdown of the sourcing. Less hydro in there than I expected but more solar and wind. A lot more nuclear than I expected. Picking qualified yes since renewables are >%10.
Seems I do have supplier options but it’s… unclear how it works.
Guess I have some reading to do.

jph@moth.social's status on Monday, 06-Feb-2023 00:47:40 JST jph @ilja @evan yea I suppose it was kind of my point that the options are basically the one company, don’t pay my electric bill, or move. I know some people who have their own solar panels but that’s not really an option in my building either ??

jph@moth.social's status on Sunday, 05-Feb-2023 10:33:48 JST jph @evan I’m tempted to make not knowing a qualified no since it sort of indicates I’m not doing anything to ensure that, but also I’m not really sure what I could do other than maybe vote for the people I already vote for?

jph@moth.social's status on Tuesday, 03-Jan-2023 07:28:47 JST jph @evan yeah I get the sentiment and it’s definitely hard to come up with something that doesn’t feel overly negative. I probably would have gone with “fill up” myself but you have a good point there. Flood maybe? ? Tricky one for sure.

jph@moth.social's status on Tuesday, 03-Jan-2023 06:47:03 JST jph @evan the more I see this boosted the less I like the “clogging” language. Though it doesn’t seem to be effecting the results much ??
